The Department of American & Canadian Studies ranked in the top four in both the Guardian and the Independent 2008 university league tables, and the Department of Drama and Arts ranked fifth in the UK for the excellence of its teaching and learning in the 2006 Guardian League Tables.
The Department of English is one of the leading centres for the study of English in the UK, and includes the Centre for English Language Studies (CELS) and the Centre for Academic and Professional English (CAPE).
The School also contains the Shakespeare Institute, which is situated in Stratford-upon-Avon, within walking distance of Shakespeare’s birthplace, and offers students an academic experience unrivalled by any other university.
