Research

The College of Arts and Law combines an internationally recognised strength in teaching and research with exciting initiatives in new fields of study.

Research strengths

Located centrally at the University, the College supports and encourages postgraduate research and study across all areas of the College.

College activities are designed to encourage interaction among the various disciplines and fields of research, and a broad range of academic staff are able to offer a unique variety and depth of study.

Teaching and research takes place in a rich and nourishing environment which stimulates, challenges and supports students and staff.

Facilities within the College provide both core and specialised functions, and include:

  • The Richard Shackleton & Rodney Hilton Libraries
  • The Harding Law library
  • The Fine Art Library
  • The History of Art Slide Library
  • The Barber Institute of Fine Arts
  • The Department of Coins (part of the IAA)
  • The Visual and Spatial Technology Centre, promoting ground-breaking research into digital imaging and remote sensing
  • The IAA Museum
  • The Danford Collection of West African Art and Artefacts
  • The CWAS Digital Library of African Music
  • Special Collections including the Migana Collection of Arabic and Syriac Manuscripts
  • A number of dedicated computer clusters including a cyber cafe
