Vision

At Birmingham, we are committed to enabling all our students to profit from a culture of learning, aligned with our research ethos, which is based upon critical enquiry, debate and self-motivation.

Undergraduate and taught postgraduate students
Central to our learning culture across all our disciplines is enquiry-based learning.

This approach to learning is intended to challenge and engage our students throughout their educational experience, and equip them to master the challenges of graduate level employment in a fast-moving world.

Postgraduate research students
At Birmingham, we aim to provide an enquiry-based research environment that enables our postgraduate research students (PGRs) to develop their potential to undertake world-class research.

Staff
Enquiry-based learning is a broad term for an approach that has been employed in higher education for many years.

The ‘Vision for Birmingham learning’ explains the learning experience that students encounter at Birmingham, and covers how our staff appropriately use an enquiry based learning approach.
